so this was one of my harder weeks in clinical- my group was working 12-hour shifts on Tuesday and wednesdy. I came to think of it like an 8 hour shift- with only 4 more hours to go! I had a very ill patient and let's just say it was difficult but I learned a lot- and I am glad that the outcome at the end of the day was better and he was doing well- and his wife came back to the unit and when she saw me, she gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek to say thank-you- I got tears in my eyes I almost cried right there on the spot. The day was full of emotions, at certain point I had some thoughts like "do I really want to be an RN?" "am i capable of doing this?", but then I had moment like those gratefull moments from the families. and having my first post-op patient (meaning they just had surgery)- thismade me realize "yes, it's hard, but it's all worthwhile when you feel good about what you do at the end of the day."
